A smidgen of quietude
Even though this is our thousandth “home” in months, something about being here so far, even just 48 hours, has quieted my soul a bit. It is the house of friends of ours, one we’ve been to many times, so we knew exactly what to expect. Still… It has refreshed us to be in a place of so little. Simplicity is a way of life here (no TV, barely any wall hangings, only the essential furniture), and it has amazed me that Chickpea has asked to watch TV only once. And that was in the car, when she saw her trusty portable DVD player on the seat next to her – a very useful tool on a 1,000 mile road trip; not so essential running basic errands around town.
She has spent her hours mostly playing outside with the dogs – and it has been SO refreshing to have a backyard. I’m grateful to have a little plot of safe-dwelling land where she can explore, escape, dig in the dirt, and play make-believe with the her canine companions. It’s uncommon to have yards in our new country, but I hear sometimes providence allows for a tiny plot of grass, and I would love it if it were so. I’m completely prepared to not expect much, but deep down, it would make my heart smile if the home God provides for us comes with a small yard. We shall see.
So I’m going to enjoy this sunny naptime and work next to my hubby, soaking in the silence. Take those small nuggets of godsend in your life, like mine today, and enjoy them. Grass, sunny days, and naptimes are all extrodinary blessings.
