And now for something completely different
I’ve spent the past few weeks overhauling a site, looking at code till my eyeballs were spinning. I also run a number of sites, including this little one. As a web designer, may I ask a tiny favor of each of you?
Stop using Internet Explorer.
Pretty please?
It’s an awful web browser, yet most people still use it. I think this is because many people don’t know they have a choice – IE is the default browser on PCs, and most people use PCs. I know there are some people that don’t even know what a web browser is – they just click on that “e” that takes them to the internet. That “e” is the symbol for Internet Explorer.
You’ve got lots of options. Did you know that most sites look differently than how they’re supposed to in IE? Most sites have separate code written just so that they don’t look horrible in IE. And they still don’t look very good.
Far and away, my favorite is Firefox because of all the add-ons. You can really customize your web browsing experience. I recommended downloading and using it asap.
But there are other good ones, too. You’ve got:
There’s tons more. I’ll still like you if you use IE, but you’re missing out. Okay, I’ll step down and continue on my way…

Amen! Preach it!
So funny. Rob made me switch a few years ago.
I agree with you!
I love Chrome.
I know! And yet…every time I have tried to download and use Firefox (and I have tried MANY times), I have major problems with my PC freezing up and having all kinds of problems. Firefox ends up turning into a terrible headache, every time. I’m starting to think that all the people who recommend Firefox are on Macs! For us geeky Microsoft holdouts, I think IE may actually still be the best option. Thoughts?
I use IE, but sadly it’s because I don’t have a choice. My husband is the computer guy and even though he works for a software company and should know better, he has a love affair with IE. And heaven help me if I were to take something tech-related into my own hands lol.
Amen sista! I hate it when it works everywhere else but the dreaded IE. My brain is too full to try to figure out why I can’t get it to work!
For you PC people…. there is now Safari for PC if Firefox (my favorite too) gives you too much of a headache
Amen!! I switched to Firefox a few years ago when IE kept making my PC crash. But it wasn’t until I started messing with some code on my blog format last year that I realized how screwy IE really is. Everyone started complaining that my blog “looked funny,” but it looked fine on MY screen. Yeah. In Firefox it looked fine. Not so much in IE. Hate IE.
Stephen has been trying to get me to use Chrome for months now.

And when I saw you mention it too I decided to try it.
It is so much better! I told Stephen and he just laughed. He said, “Of course you would listen to Tsh. I have been telling you that for months!”
Thanks for the advice!
