chickisms from the past few days

Chickpea has been saying so many great things lately, but I think the Oregon gray skies has infiltrated my brain with SAD, and it has thus been very difficult to remember them when I finally sit down to blog.  Sigh.

A few days ago, she and I were on a little mama-daughter date at a cute little cafe:

  • ME: Hey Chick, can I try one of your fries?
  • CHICK: Sure. (Starts handing me a fry, and then stops mid-air.)  Wait.  How old are you?
  • ME: 31.
  • CHICK: (Thinks for a few seconds.)  Well… okay.  You can have one.  And then you can have three.  Because you’re 31.  But that’s all.  We’ve got dinner later.

This weekend, we went to the Oregon Coast Aquarium.  We were looking at some crabs, and she pointed to a sign near the tank that said “Dungeness Crabs.”

  • CHICK: Mom!  I can read!  That sign says, “There is a crab in here right now.”

This morning, I was awakened by this statement three inches from my ear:

  • CHICK: Mom, I know what I’m going to get Dad for his birthday.  A cute little gorilla.  And some socks.  And… Well, I’m not going to tell you the rest, because it’s a secret.

(Keep in mind that her dad’s birthday is in July.  She’s a planner.)

And finally, this afternoon while I was checking email, she came up to me with a pad and pencil:

  • CHICK: Mom, what would you like to eat?  (She loves playing waitress.)
  • ME: Hmm…  I’ll have a salad with some walnuts and cranberries, and an iced tea.
  • CHICK: No, Mom!  You’re pretending to be a little girl.  You want a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and some chocolate milk.  Little girls like that stuff.
