Chickisms

We went to the zoo today.  Again.  And Chickpea loved every minute of it – at least I’m guessing by her repeated mantra of “Yay!  Animals!” all day.  The main reason we went again was because it is CHEAP entertainment.  And I mean cheap.  Chickpea is free, and adults are $.95 each.  Not bad for a couple hours to kill on a lovely Saturday afternoon.  We also ate a cheap lunch, rode the caterpillar roller coaster (again) and the carousel, and bought some ice cream.  A lesson learned – ask how much the ice cream is before you buy it.  Usually ice cream in this country is around $.75-$1.00 for about two scoops in a cone.  The ice cream by the zoo was a whopping $12 for the three of us – and it wasn’t that spectacular.  Oops.  Now we know.

Chickpea has also taken on a hobby of saying some pretty random and funny things, and I keep forgetting to write them down.  So let’s see if I can remember some, off the top of my head:

  • Today at breakfast, Chickpea looks at me out of nowhere in all seriousness and says, “Mommy, a moose eats yellow flowers.”
  • If you ask her how she slept in the morning or after a nap, she’ll either say, “Mmm, I slept pretty good,” or “Mmm, I slept pretty bad.”
  • Throughout the day and at random, she’ll pat anyone on the back and say, “[Person's name], I’m happy to see you today.”
  • She will also randomly ask you, “[Your name], are you alright, are you okay?”
  • Kabob has also really enjoyed her constantly telling him to “Look out!” and “Daddy, be careful!” when we’re walking down the street.
  • She’s definitely in that “Mommy, watch this!” stage, and then will proceed to do something for you, like jump or spin or throw the cushions off the couch.  But this week she added “Ooh ooh!” to the beginning of a lot of phrases.  So now it’s, “Ooh ooh, Mommy – watch this!” or “Ooh ooh – what happened?” when she hears a noise in the other room.
  • Finally, her favorite game for a few weeks now has been hide-and-seek.  She loves playing an impromptu game wherever we are, even if she doesn’t understand exactly how it’s played (when you say “Where are you?” she’ll actually tell you where she is from her hiding spot).  But she also loves counting and finding the hide-ee.  However, she’s just not the best at counting yet (bless her heart, she got this from her mother).  Right now she’s counting, “Two, three, five, six, seven, five, six, seven!  Here I come!”

That’s all I can think of for now, but that should be enough to appease the relatives for a few days.  I’m sure I’ll think of more as soon as I hit ‘publish.’  In the meantime, Chickpea is passed out in her bed, Kabob is out cold on the couch next to me, and there’s no reason on earth why I shouldn’t join them.

Happy Saturday!
