Everyday life
Spring has spring around here – we’re treated with frequent thunderstorms and random cold nights, but the mornings and afternoons are gorgeously crisp and sunny.
This Sunday marks three weeks since we’ve returned. Where has the time gone? Unpacking, laundry, and busyness, that’s where. I can’t get over how busy we’ve been.
Our days have been spent rearranging furniture, unpacking (and then finding a storage spot for) boxes, buying a bookshelf to house the new books we carted across the pond, oiling up our cooking gears, and searching for our family’s routine.
We’re still waiting on all the red tape for Kabob’s office to finalize, so in the meantime, he’s solely working from home. It’s nice to have him around, but it does make it confusing for the kiddos – Dad’s home, but he can’t play.
I’m working, too, about 10-15 hours a week, plus blogging, and I’ve got my nose to the grindstone with another writing project up my sleeve. I can’t wait to reveal more, but let’s just say that I love my job is writing.
Finally – we’ve started home school. I realized that my intentions would be in vain if I waited for the perfect time to start, so I took the plunge and cracked open her books this Monday.
It has gone extremely well. It’s pre-k, so we’re only doing about 30 minutes a day, plus some art or outdoor time attached. All in all, it’s a whopping hour. My only goal for pre-k is learning how to read, so I’m not pushing the school thing too much. The major educational goal for our kids is for them to be lifelong learners, so I don’t want to smother Chickpea with school so much that she ends up retreating from the whole idea altogether.
Right now, though, she thinks it’s heaps of fun, and we’ll keep doing what we’re doing as long as she thinks so. And for the moment, I find it heaps of fun to teach her.
I’ll write more about the specifics of what we’re doing soon.

In the meantime, I’ll share the song she wanted to teach me when school was over yesterday, and she wanted a turn at being the teacher:
“Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the earth hear His voice. But why, oh why, God, did the dinosaurs have to die? Oh where, oh where are the dinosaurs? And why did they go away? Why did they diiiiiiiie?”
What’s her deal with dinosaurs?

Don’t you just love the thought process of a child? priceless!
I love it – that’s hilarious. I sent the song to my brother the dinasour man.
