Homemade, reusable dryer sheets
My apologies to my regular readers who just read this tip about a week ago.Â
It’s been forever since I’ve contributed to Works for Me Wednesday, but I wanted to throw this out there, since it’s been so helpful for the past few weeks.
Groceries and household supplies are really expensive here, so I tried making my own dryer sheets (those are non-existent in this country). I read about this tip somewhere online, but I can’t find the link (so thanks, mystery person!). Pour equal parts fabric softener and water into a jar, shake, and add basic kitchen sponges cut in half. Squeeze out a sponge, throw it in the dryer, and walla – reusable dryer sheets. Just throw the sponges back in the jar when the load is done. Supposedly it takes forever to go through fabric softener this way.
I’ve been doing this for about two weeks now, and it’s worked beautifully!

Great Idea! Unfortunately, I can’t use fabric softener due to my son’s eczema. Do you have an all natural fabric softener recipe? Thanks.
THANK YOU for this tip. I will definitely try this. I ran out of dryer sheets last night in the middle of 3 loads of laundry.
I have done this using an old washcloth as well. It does save a lot of money! Thanks!
Wow, I may have to give that a try. As for a natural fabric softener- I use vinegar in the washing machine’s fabric softener thingy.
Thanks so much for sharing this! I am going to do this. I was just thinking this morning about how to do that and save the money buying the sheets (not to mention be more earth friendly!) but the last time I tried, it made spots on my clothes. I had not, however, added water to the softener. I’m going to go get some sponges tomorrow and try this. Thanks!
Glad it might help out!
Very cool. I will definitely use this tip. I just came across your blog but I think I will end up being a regular reader. I skimmed through some of your archives and was excited to see you are Texans (I’ll forgive you for being t-sips being from Austin and all
) You ever need a care package of Tabasco let me know.
I found you from Rocks in My Dryer. Love the WFMW tip!!! I read more on your blog and would love to know where you’re living. I looked and read and read and looked but couldn’t find it. Where are you? Having lived in both Asia and Europe myself I am curious…
Blessings~

We saw this about 6 months ago. Pretty good flick with some great points but it is definitely a bit exaggerated. Some people got themselves into some big trouble (college students committing suicide with huge debt) which makes you think about what you accumulate with cards and loans and such. Worth seeing, with a grain of salt.
I been doing similar for years. You can use a small sock, washcloth, piece of rag, I use knee high panty hose (1) or cut large hose down to 12 inches or longer and crumple up in glass of liquid softner. toss it in and thats it!
