Just keep swimming

Chickpea has a Finding Nemo book, and one of her favorite parts is when Dory sings, “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming, swimming.”  I find myself humming that song this morning.

In the Word this morning, He took me back to the verse He has taken me to so many times during this season of transition.   I even mentioned it as my theme verse of 2006.  It can’t help but resonate perfectly to someone in the waiting room of life, with questions unanswered and life uncertain.  “Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness” (Psalm 37:3).

Elisabeth Elliot once said when you don’t know what to do, just do the thing in front of you.  The Holy Spirit said this loud and clear to me this morning.

Lord, what should we do to be at 100% support?  Lord, what books should stay and which ones should go?  Lord, where will we find the funds to go on a much-needed vacation?  Lord, what do we do about Chickpea’s tendency to whine?  Lord, where we will live starting this Saturday?

His answer was in His Word.  Trust in Me.  Do good.  Dwell in today, in the land I have given you, and be all there – don’t wish to be a step ahead.  And cultivate faithfulness – in yourself, in your daughter, in your husband, in those I bring your way today.  Till the soil and pull out the weeds so that you are ripe for Me.

You know what you have to do today.  It is right in front of you.  Do that.  I will take care of tomorrow.
