We were chatting with a local friend in the local language over lunch:

• FRIEND: My birthday was this past weekend.
• US: Oh!  Happy birthday.
• FRIEND: Thank you.  I’m 43 now.
• KABOB: Oh, you’re not young.

He meant to say, “Oh, you’re young.”  She laughed.
