Magic Bullet
Does anyone have the Magic Bullet? Is it worth the money? It’s got mixed reviews on Amazon, but I’d love to hear from anyone first-hand here.

We had one in the states and loved it. It is quick and easy and only has one speed – fast. Now that we are living overseas we bought a version of it here because we liked it so much. It purees nicely. We make smoothies, baby food, grind pepper, and make sauces in it. Hope this helps.
It does help – thanks!
I HATE MINE!!! (so umm…that was honest). to be truthful, i saw them on TV & fell in love…we got one as a wedding gift almost two years ago & it is STILL in the cupboard almost ununsed. The reason? : IT DOESN’T CRUSH ICE. I was SO EXCITED to make smoothies in those cute little cups (with their own lids)…but the blade isn’t strong enough to crush through “automatic ice maker” ice. I make hummus quite a bit–but the batch is too big to fit in the cups…so I get out my food processor. I blend our homemade pizza sauce so there aren’t chunks of vegetables but the batches are always huge…so I get out my food processor….
If you are looking for something smaller than a food processor, CuisinArt makes a “mini” food processor that is SUPER POWERFUL & holds about 1/4 the volume of a regular one
I have both the mini processor & magic bullet….you can guess which one is actually OUT on our counter
My dad bought me both versions (at home and travel) because he thought they were the cat’s meow. I was very skeptical, but it has proven to be a great tool. It’s great to make custom smoothies for each kid and it’s replaced my cuisinart for salsa making.
I ridiculously love my Magic Bullet. I didn’t buy it literally or emotionally until I knew a friend who had one that we’d use every single day for smoothies, soups, grating cheese.
I definitely recommend it!
We had one and liked it, but honestly didn’t use it as much as we thought we would. We mostly made ice cream shakes and fruit smoothies. However, when Amar’s parents visited, they fell in love with it and we sent it back to India with them. His mom uses it to make a lot of their veggie dishes (chopping up greens, spices, etc.).
We LOVE our Magic Bullet. I had never heard of them until we received it as a wedding present. So much easier to clean and deal with than a regular blender… and we think it does the job better. When the weather is warmer we make a lot of smoothies, and it is nice to have the individual size cup when I want a peach smoothie and my guy wants strawberry. We haven’t tried it for much else, other than salsa. mmm. The only downside is that the cups do not stack really well, and if you are short on space… I am always corralling the cups and lids and pieces in the cupboard.
Boy, do I have opinions. My friend loves her Magic Bullet. I almost bought one, but then I realized I do not have the space to store all those plastic cups and parts that you need. I bought this Cuisinart hand blender instead. It blends just as fast, it’s cheaper, it’s simple to clean, and it takes up very little space. I’ve used it every day for a year and still love it.
Thanks for everyone’s opinions! It’s helping.
We have one and I would say that it is definitely worth the money, but we also don’t use it very often and you do need to be careful with cleaning. We also have an older store-brand model of the same thing. I would say that the Magic Bullet has been more durable thus far, but they both work quite well.
Hi Tsh,
We have one of these! One Christmas, Charlie’s dad went crazy and bought them for everybody in the family. Short answer: we really like it. Let me elaborate on that…
Pros:
It rocks for baby food. When the twins were still needing things mushy, I used it several times a day. We were also given a baby food processor, and the magic bullet works SO much better, as well as being easier to clean. The twins are past that stage now, so I don’t use it nearly so often. Now my primary uses are making smoothies (we use OJ, bananas, and raw cream… I don’t try to do ice) or whipping cream. I have also used it when I buy a big thing of fresh ginger… I will pulverize it in the magic bullet, and freeze the ginger in an ice cube tray for later use. I recently realized that I NEVER use the Cuisinart food processor we got for our wedding seven years ago, and I should probably pass it along to somebody who would use it!
Cons:
It is true that all the various cups take up space in a cabinet. The appliance itself is so compact, it actually lives on our counter all the time. But we don’t really have any drawers in our little kitchen, and so I have all the cups in a cabinet over the stove. Stuff is always falling out at me from that cabinet. This is really a minor complaint, though. And it’s true that it can’t do everything. It really pulverizes whatever you put in it — I find it hard to control it and make it just gently chop something up. Also, it doesn’t whip egg whites, apparently. I haven’t tried, because I didn’t want to make more dirty dishes if it wouldn’t work, but online research said it wouldn’t…
Good luck with your decision!
Sarah
Boo! I liked it at first (used it for making baby food) but shortly after it started to smell a little like burning and worked worse and worse. Eventually I took it back to Costco (thankfully they are great about returns) and just bought a simple Osterizer blender from Target that had good reviews on amazon. It’s super loud but works great and has less parts to worry about storing (another annoyance I realized about the Magic Bullet).
I’ve never used the magic bullet, but i have a Vita-mix, and I LOVE it! For the record, I didn’t purchase it myself, it was a gift. It’s outrageously expensive, but does EVERYTHING. I can make soups from cold, raw ingredients, and they will come out steaming hot because the friction is so high. I made baby food in bulk with it, and froze it in ice trays, and it makes the best margaritas, too;) I can make perfectly light and powdery powdered sugar from white sugar, amazingly smooth hummus, nut butters, smoothies, etc. The speeds are variable from 1-10 with a super high power boost, so it will coarsely chop well, or puree to perfection. If you have a few hundred dollars you don’t know what to do with;), or a lot of family who will combine to get it for you;) It’s a great, and versatile tool. (did i sound like a commercial??;)
It’s not as useful as I thought it’d be. However, I love using it to mix eggs and milk and to mince garlic cloves (I hate getting fresh garlic on my hands, it’s so sticky!!!). Those are the two things I use it for. Not worth the $40 to me…oh, well.
NO WAY! What a waste of $$$!! They are quite unreliable too from what I have heard from my friends…easy to “burn” the motor. I wouldn’t know; I was so disappointed that I didn’t use it enough to blow anything on it. I agree…use the food processor.
Love it, love it, love it!!!! Especially because I put a lot of purees in my recipes and love to make smoothies. And, you can get it from Bed Bath and Beyond for about $40 if you use your 20% off coupon! Highly recommend. I never had a food processor, but I would think this is much simpler and easier to manage, clean, and store.
Oh, its also great for chopping/grinding things like nuts, flax seed, coffee beans, oatmeal, you name it…
I actually love mine, and I’ve never had a problem blending ice in it. I make frozen coffee drinks in mine all the time, with automatic ice maker ice cubes, and I’ve never had a problem. I use mine for smoothies/milkshakes, baby food, salad dressings, pesto, and salsa. I’ve had it for about 3 or 4 years now.
