We are currently living in Indonesia so our Christmas was humid and un-Christmasy feeling. We decided to spend Christmas in a hotel in Jakarta which meant that we had to chase our children constantly around, not feel relaxed at all (vacations are not vacations when you have kids!), and not feel like it was Christmas. We feel your pain for wanting to be with family (our are in Oregon too) and missing the Christmas spirit. We did get some ranch dressing out of the deal which we haven't had in a year and a half, making it almost worth it!
Thanks for the honesty.

It's a hard time to be away from home. We're in China, and they don't celebrate Christmas here - though they do put up trees and blare holiday music for the expat crowd. We've missed packages loads of times, and it is a miserable feeling. But hey - now you have your birthday shopping done for the year! And now you know you have some great friends. Glad your Christmas turned out well in the end. Enjoy the rest of the season.
