I’m sooooo glad you aren’t stressing handwriting yet! Yeah, you! If I could give just one piece of advice as the handwriting expert, I’d say have her write with all kinds of mediums (playdough, shaving cream, pudding, etc.), use a vertical surface such as a chalkboard or simple piece of paper hung on the wall, and cut all of her crayons and pencils really short – no bigger than 1″. These things will all make her a “star” when you are ready to introduce it – which I recommend no earlier than 6 y.o. Have fun! Thanks for sharing!

I am *delighted* with your font!!! I have a seven-year-old who is a bit careless with his handwriting, and a two-year-old who will be using and enjoying this all too soon. Your curriculum choices are fun and sensible…..it looks like Chickpea will have a wonderful Pre-K year!

this helps to see your thoughts laid out. your kiddo’s over a year older than our kiddo so it’s nice to know i still have lots of time to think. it’s easy for me to get overwhelmed with all the billions of choices, but i love seeing other people’s ideas. thanks!

Love your enthusiasm! I really like FIAR, too, although I don’t own it. We just do a study here and there when I check the books out.

Thank you for linking to the handwriting font! This will be great for my 4-year old. I’ve been using basic handwriting sheets, and copywork, but it will be much more fun to make personalized sheets for him!

we’re in the exact same spot you are with just venturing into homeschooling (our oldest son is also going to be 5 in february!), and i too have been wanting to get started doing a more formal education this upcoming year. but my plans aren’t nearly as developed as your’s, and i have a feeling i’m going to be taking a very slow transition into the whole thing, so that by this time next year, when i want to definitely start “for real,” i’ll have a much more concrete idea of what i want to do. if i do it any other way, i know i would just overwhelm myself.

thanks for posting this, though! i love gleaning ideas from other people.

Just wanted to say that I love your blogs! I found Simple Mom about a month ago and have been devouring it ever since. Then I started reading this one through your Weekend Links and instantly connected with so much you were saying. We also love Ordinary Parent’s Guide to Reading and are doing much of the same stuff with our 4 1/2 year old daughter this year in prep for “real” homeschool next year : ) Thanks for the FIAR info, it looks very neat.
