Our week in review
Well, our computer is most likely now somewhere between Arizona and Oregon. Someone here was flying back to the States, and they were willing to take our laptop with them, send it to Kabob’s parents, who will then deal with the Apple end of things. They then will deliver it to a girl in Washington who will be coming here mid-July. So, that means we’ll have our computer in about a month. A long while, but at least the drama is over with. For now, we will be happy with our Skypeless, wirelessless, slow-as-molasses computer.
I’m sure you wanted to know all those details.
It was one of those ironic weeks where we also lost our hot water for awhile (and we weren’t sure if it was maybe gone for the summer), our DVD player bit the dust (a whopping 2 months old), and something else broke that I can’t remember at the moment. We wondered if we should go ahead and smash some of our appliances ahead of time, just to give us a head start.
Yesterday was the highlight of the week, where we went to the beach for a few hours with some American friends. Chickpea had a ball playing in the sand and in the makeshift wading pool her daddy made out of sand (she’s not crazy about the crashing waves yet). The water was a crystal turquoise, the sun was shining, and the wind was blowing like crazy. We took photos, of course, but I won’t be able to load them for, well, about a month.
So now the weekend is devoted to cleaning and packing, as we head out of the country for 10 days next week for a conference. It’s not exactly in a country I’ve always wanted to visit, but I hear it’s beautiful, and it should be a good time just to have a break and be around some fun people. We’re very much looking forward to it.
So as I get back to vacuuming and mopping, you should check this Time photo essay of What the World Eats. It’s really fascinating. I found it interesting to note how many fruits and veggies were present for each country. HT to Bread and Circuses for this one.
Have a good weekend!
