putting out fires, left and right

We’re doing well…  Garbanzo is a great sleeper.  Almost too great, because it’s weirding me out – Chickpea was a horrible sleeper as a newborn.  He ate at 11 p.m., then slept until 4:30 a.m.  He ate again, and then slept again until 8:30 a.m.  I’m tired, but I actually feel like I got some semblance of sleep.  Our first night home with Chickpea, Kabob and I took two-hour shifts sleeping, because she NEVER SLEPT.  He has been sleeping most of the day today.  Like I said, it’s weirding me out.

Chickpea woke up with a 102-degree fever and feeling miserable.  So she has not been so much fun today, the poor thing.  She started feeling a tad better by nap time, but not enough for me to consider her well.  So we’ve been doing our best to keep her away from Garbanzo – she’s spent most of the day in the living room watching cartoons on the couch, while Garbanzo’s been in the back with my mom.  I’ve hardly gotten any photos of the two kids together, and it’s killing me.  She really loves him, but we can tell she knows life is different, and she’s been very clingy to me in particular.

Chickpea was tongue-tied as a newborn, so we had her frenulum clipped when she was seven days old.  From then on, she was able to nurse well.  Until then, I was constantly bleeding, she was swallowing the blood and then spitting it all back up, thus making nursing both painful and almost pointless.  Garbanzo’s doing the same thing – even though his pediatrician AND a pediatric surgeon said his frenulum looks fine.  So I’ve been pumping all day, and either my mom or Kabob have been feeding him with a medicine dropper.  We’re giving me 24 hours to heal, and then to figure out what to do next.  Needless to say, it’s been pretty frustrating.  Pray for that whole situation, if you think of it.

So overall, our day has been spent laying low at the house, treating a toddler with a fever and feeding a three-day-old with a medicine dropper.  Kabob and I keep looking at each other, in astonishment that we have two kids.  Two wonderful, adorable, precious blessings.  We are beyond blessed.  Despite the cacophany of the day, it’s been a good one.

I loaded a bunch of photos on Flickr.  Let me know if you need the link.

And I’ll write my birth story soon, when I have the energy.  I personally think it’s one for the books.

Chickpea just woke up and vomited.  So here we go, rolling up our sleeves again…

I’d love the link to the website.
We are thinking of you with this new little one and sickness. We have 3 and with a little one in the house it always makes it so much more stressful. I’ll pass it on to others, you’ll be lifted up.
