Saving those Washingtons and Lincolns

I’ve already tried to post this once, so hopefully I won’t lose it again.

In my original post, I waxed eloquently about frugality, why I love being a good financial manager so that I can glorify God with what He’s given us, and how I love being blessed with finding a good deal.

Now, I just don’t have time to rewrite it. So let’s just say I’m cheap.

And without further adieu, here are some links about budgeting and frugality that I’ve enjoyed lately:

• Money Saving Mom is a newish blog started by Crystal, who has been blogging at her other site for quite a few years. The woman is a coupon and stockpiling genius. She’s known for feeding her growing family for $35 a week. There are lots of really good practical ideas there, so if you’re into saving money with your everyday household chores, you should make it a regular read.

• Here are two recent ideas from her blog this week, of which I unfortunately can’t partake because I live outside the U.S. So someone go scout these out in my honor! First, this week at Walgreens you can spend $4 and get a $100 spa gift certificate. Second, she shares about Mom Central, where you can receive full-sized products to sample in exchange for giving them your opinion on the product. Sounds cool to me!

• I was recently praising the financial philosophies of Dave Ramsey – he really is my new money management guru. Here’s a great list of links, all relating to him and his ideas.

• If I lived in the States, I would so totally take advantage of Paperback Swap or Cash4Books.

• Sense to Save is another good blog about saving money.

• Finally, here’s a little tip of my own I did this past week, and it worked great. You’ve heard me grumble about how expensive groceries are here, so I tried to make my own dryer sheets (those are non-existent here). I read about it somewhere online, but I can’t find the link (so thanks, mystery person!). Pour equal parts fabric softener and water into a jar, shake, and add basic kitchen sponges cut in half. Squeeze out a sponge, throw it in the dryer, and walla – reusable dryer sheets. Just throw it back in the jar when the load is done. Supposedly it takes forever to go through fabric softener this way.

edited to add:  There’s a good post on Get Rich Slowly about the growing of single-family homes in the U.S., and that bigger usually isn’t better.  In 1950, the average single-family home was 983 square feet.  Today, it’s 2,349 square feet.  Interesting.

Okay, that laundry isn’t going to fold itself… have a happy Friday!
