Sleeping and house-looking – that’s all we’ve done so far
I’m killing a bit of time waiting for dinner to start here at the hotel (we’re starving). Today was a pretty good day. We all went to bed around 8:30 p.m. last night and were out like a ROCK.
Sometime during the night – I’m guessing around 1 a.m., there isn’t a clock in our room – Chickpea woke up calling, “Mommy… Mommy…” It wasn’t a scared or I’m- awake- let’s- play type of calling, it was a mostly-asleep, just making sure we’re there calling. I went to her, told her it was still sleeping time, tucked her in, and she conked back out without a hitch. Kabob and I, however, couldn’t go back to sleep, and after awhile we started chit-chatting. We decided to check the time, turned on the computer, and discovered it was 3 a.m. (7 p.m. in Austin). We thought it was maybe 6 or 7 a.m. So – needless to say, we needed to try and get back to sleep for the sake of adjusting to the time.
After awhile we drifted off to sleep, and a few minutes later our TL called. Yesterday he said he would call if he hadn’t heard from us by noon. Turns out it was noon. And those few minutes of sleep were actually 9 hours.
I ended up waking Chickpea at 1 p.m. so we could make the hotel lunch, which ended at 2 p.m. Afterwards we went apartment looking with our TL, where she fell asleep in the car at around 4 p.m. We’re holding on to dinner, which is in 30 minutes, and then I have a feeling it will be another early night for Miss Pea.
So – apartment looking. We only had time to see two, because the realtor (apartment locator, really) closed at 5 p.m. Both were okay, but we’re not jumping up and down over them. We don’t have anything to compare to, really. As is customary here, they were each basically a large hallway with rooms jutting out – so the kitchen is a separate room with a door, as is the salon (living room/dining room combo), bedrooms, and bathroom. Both were 3 bedrooms, and both had decent balconies (eating al fresco is very common here). Our main concern is location (isn’t that the case anywhere?) – amount of stores, kid-friendliness, easy access to public transportation. The plan is to look around much more tomorrow, so maybe we’ll see our new home then.
As I wrap this up, I realize this blog entry is probably interesting to 10 of you. Oh well… Stay tuned for more riveting stories as time progresses.

I must be 2 of ten. I was thinking to myself I had no idea what your first day would be like. Wondering what one does, when they arrive in a new country. So I’m glad you blogged about it.
‘eating al fresco’ doesn’t mean eating n*ked? LOL!
Praise God you are all safe and sound.
What an adventure!!!
Blessings,
Karla
hey, is that new picture in your new city? It’s really neat looking! Not what I’d imagined. Maybe I should read more about the world, LOL
What does that make me? 3 of 10 so far. ;o)
Thanks for keeping us updated. Glad you got some sleep last night, here’s to an even better night tonight!
Thanks, everyone, for your prayers and general interest.
Kim – You make me laugh. “Al fresco” means outside, so I guess it’s just a snobby way of saying “eating on your balcony.” And yep, that’s a photo from our country. It’s a beautiful place.
I’m #4 or #5 or whatever.
Dining al fresco sounds lovely!
Glad all is going well so far and I wish I could get in on some of that good sleep!
I love eating naked.
