We’re back, baby – in more ways than one
Ahhh… We’re back. We got back two evenings ago and hit the ground running again, and when I noticed that the mere hint of a whine in Chickpea’s voice didn’t send me into convulsions, or that looking at our to-do list didn’t make my stomach drop, it indicated that I got some good rest.
It’s weird when you don’t realize how unrested and overworked you are until you purposely separate yourself from real life. I truly didn’t know how tired I was until I got enough sleep. It was bizarre sleeping in until 9. When did I do that last? We both felt like we were pinpricked the first day , and the rest of the time we slowly deflated. We headed back to Austin, in good spirits and dying to see our little girl.
So other than sleeping in, some highlights of this past week were:
- Eating whenever we felt like it (dinner at 8? Madness!)
- Grilling steak and chicken for two, with the river just below our deck
- Stargazing on a two-person outdoor chaise lounge
- Going to the Gristmill – twice
- Getting pancakes at a diner in the middle of NOWHERE
- Reading a book, cover to cover, in 48 hours
- Watching my hubby get totally immersed and addicted to a book just for fun – can’t remember the last time I saw that
- Catching a few movies on satellite TV
- Okay, I’ll just say it because it was so great – sleeping in
We are so blessed to have had this little break. We completely see why it’s essential to have one of these before heading overseas (ours could have been about twice as long, actually). So now it’s down to the last few things… Seeing people and running errands. If you’re in Austin, hopefully we’ll see you at our going away thingy tonight!

Sounds so divine! I’m inspired to take a break too. So see ya… zzzzz. Hugs! :~)
“Endurance” is one of my all time favorite books! There is a great documentary about Shackleton that I saw at the Dobie, too. Such an incredible story!
