What I’ve learned since becoming a mom…

Did you know they still have “Highlights” the magazine in pediatricians’ waiting rooms? It’s true. And they look exactly the same, with the same cartoons and everything. Well, this update is more for extended family members (aka, “people who would actually care about this”), but Chickpea had her 4-month appointment today, and she’s a-okay. 14 pounds, 2 ounces, 25 inches long – 75% percentile in everything. Her doc says she’s “very proportionate.” Way to go, Chick. And like last time, she did great with her shots. Her mom teared up more than she did.

In a few hours the three of us are driving to Dallas for the weekend, just to get away. Kabob has mentioned a few times that since we moved back to Austin from Oregon (almost a year ago now), we’ve barely left the city and he’s feeling cabin-fevered. I’d have to agree, especially since now I’m mostly in the confines of our home. So we’re not really going to do anything special (I mean, it’s only Dallas), but it will be nice to get away. It’s Kabob’s little Father’s Day present.

What did you guys do in Dallas?
I remember being so surprised the first time I saw Highlights in a waiting room after having kids. I loved that magazine when I was little. I think often about when my kids are old enough to get it and how fun that will be. I don’t think I ever read it outside of waiting rooms though, or school, I don’t remember having a subscription. That last “find it” page was the best.

Tate is really growing! Thanks for the update — this section of your extended family enjoys keeping up to date! Hope you enjoyed your time in Dallas! Next time you could come to Springpatch! The welcome mat is always out and we have a portable crib on hand!
